Dr Zhen Zheng
B Med, PhD (Melb)
Special interest: Acute pain, chronic pain, fertility, women’s health, insomnia, emotional wellbeing, Chinese diet therapy, neuroplasticity
Dr Zheng is a widely respected practitioner, and has been serving the Greater Geelong community since 2001. She also lectures and researches at RMIT University (Melbourne). Zhen is passionate about applying effective acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine treatment for many conditions. In her current research project, she leads the establishment of acupuncture programs in hospitals to facilitate post-surgical recovery.
Dr Zheng’s PhD thesis was about pain in older people. Since then, she has developed a special interest in pain management. Dr Zheng: “Pain is a common yet complex symptom, and can affect one’s life profoundly. Pain sufferers often feel irritable, have low energy and insomnia, and can suffer from functional impairment. I believe pain and the related sufferings should be understood and managed as a whole, and a combination of various therapies often achieves better therapeutic results than one particular therapy does.”
BHSc (Chinese Medicine)
Special interest: unusual pains and aches that have no clear biomedical diagnosis, chronic ‘never well since’ illnesses (lingering pathogens), dysfunctional digestive system and recovery from surgery, accident or injury
Growing up in Geelong, Paul has a special interest in promoting the health benefits of Chinese Medicine to the local community. He is also a board member and a volunteer acupuncturist for the not-for-profit Hands on Health Australia (HOHA) Norlane Healing Hands clinic and in his spare time is a keen tai chi practitioner. Paul was named the 2013 Healthcare Volunteer of the Year for his dedication to ‘Norlane Helping Hands’ – providing low-cost healthcare to people who can’t otherwise afford it.
While a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Paul also studies and trains in Gong fu (Chinese martial arts) and Qi Gong (Chinese discipline devoted to the development of understanding, awareness and harmonizing of one’s mind, body, qi and spirit). All these Chinese practices were created from the same philosophy and share many principles that work together to support health and longevity.
BMed, MMed (Chinese Medicine)
Special interest: women’s health, as well as infertility, insomnia and emotional disturbances
Lauren worked in China as a medical resident in a hospital and has practised in private clinics in Australia since her arrival in 2009. Lauren has a strong interest in maintaining women’s health, as well as infertility, insomnia and emotional disturbances treatment. She believes any kind of pain or any health issues are signals sent by body which means they should never be treated isolated without considering about the person’s constitution, age, and spiritual condition.
Trained in both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medical sciences, Lauren combines the two comfortably in her clinical practice aiming to achieve successful results for patients.
